In today’s society, gun control is one of the hottest topics on the press. Many Americans oppose the notion that gun control is necessary. Guns easily end up in the hands of mentally ill people and others who obtain guns illegally. There have been several public shootings and multiple murders committed by people who do not need guns. Currently, numerous of senseless killings are reported throughout the United States. When society opposes gun legislations, we end up with a war on Americans. According to Agresi & Smith (2010), “Firearms are generally classified into three board types; handguns, rifles and shotguns. Based on production data from firearms manufactures, there are roughly 300 million firearms owned by civilians in the United States as of 2010. Of these, about 100 million are handguns.” Many Americans do not care to discuss gun control they scream their rights are being validated at the mere thought of the government implanting stricter gun controls for fear they will be unable to continue to purchase guns. However, many Americans have several handguns in their homes. Conley University of Law (2010), states that the second amendment is “the right to keep and bear arms.” Americans want to keep their rights and guns. Many people are killed daily by illegal guns and law enforcement officials are put at great risk. The Sociological imagination coined by C.
