Who is Al Gore? Albert Arnold "Al" Gore, Jr is the formerVice President of the United States (1993–2001). I choose Al Gore because I think he is the only one that really cares about the environment. Born on March 31, 1948, he has founded a number of non-profit organizations, including the Alliance for Climate Protection, and has received a Nobel Peace Prize for his work in climate change activism. Gore opposed the Vietnam War, but said that his sense of civic duty compelled him to enlist in the U.S. Army in August 1969. After basic training, Gore was assigned as a military journalist writing for The Army Flier, the base newspaper at Fort Rucker.
With seven months left in his enlistment, Gore was shipped to Vietnam, arriving in January 1971. He served with the 20th engineer Brigade in Bien Hoa and at the Army Engineer Command in Long Binh. Al Gore was born in Washington, D.C., the second of two children. Gore attended the all-boys St. Albans School in Washington, D.C. from 1956 to 1965, a prestigious feeder school for the Ivy League. Gore enrolled in Harvard College in 1965, initially planning to major in English and write novels, but later deciding to major in government. He met Mary Elizabeth Aitcheson from the nearby St. Agnes School at his St. Albans senior prom in 1965. Shortly after Mary graduated from Boston University, they married at the Washington National Cathedral. 3
